Giovanni Bellini. Influences croisées is the first major publication in France devoted to the Venetian master, produced in connection with the exhibition at the Musée Jacquemart-André in Paris (March 3 – July 17, 2023). This richly illustrated art book traces Bellini’s artistic journey through around fifty carefully selected works, including paintings, drawings, and comparative pieces, that reveal how his style was shaped by dialogue with other cultures and artists.

Giovanni Bellini (Venice, c.1435–1516) served as the official painter of the Venetian Republic and is today regarded as the father of Venetian painting. By pioneering a new language of color and shadow, he laid the foundation for the luminous style that would make Venice a beacon of Renaissance art.

Rather than presenting Bellini in isolation, the catalog highlights the exchanges that marked his career: the legacy of Byzantine art in Venice, his encounters with the innovations of Mantegna and Antonello da Messina, and the visual stimulus of Northern Renaissance masters.

Both a scholarly reference and a visually engaging volume, this catalog situates Giovanni Bellini not only as a pivotal figure of the Italian Renaissance, but also as an artist who absorbed and reimagined a wide range of traditions, creating a body of work that continues to shape the history of European painting.
