This richly illustrated museum catalog explores the lives and works of painters active in the Duchy of Luxembourg throughout the 18th century. Based on newly uncovered archival documents, the volume sheds light on both native and itinerant artists—many previously forgotten—who produced artworks for civic, religious, and private patrons between 1701 and 1800.

Written by Henri Carême and published by Silvana Editoriale in collaboration with the Musée national d’archéologie, d’histoire et d’art (MNAHA) in Luxembourg, the publication corrects long-standing historical errors and reconstructs an almost-lost visual culture. Featuring over 100 full-color illustrations and biographical entries, this is the first comprehensive study of 18th-century painting in the region.
