The Städel Museum is one of Germany’s oldest and most internationally important art museums. Its holdings include outstanding masterpieces from the early 14th century to contemporary art. The collection includes around 3,000 paintings, 600 sculptures, 4,000 photographs, and over 100,000 drawings and prints. It is known worldwide for its high quality and outstanding scientific treatment.

The foundation stone was laid by the Frankfurt merchant and banker Johann Friedrich Städel in 1815, when in his will he bequeathed his collection and his entire fortune to the founding of the Städel Art Institute.

The catalog highlights 250 of the finest examples from the museum’s collection including paintings, sculptures, and graphic art.
