This richly illustrated exhibition catalog explores one of the world’s most remarkable private collections of Mannerist prints.

The exhibition presents highlights from the print collection of Georg Baselitz, one of today’s most influential contemporary artists, alongside masterpieces from the Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest. Rather than examining Mannerism solely through traditional art historical narratives, the project offers the unique perspective of an artist-collector whose passion for sixteenth-century printmaking has shaped one of the most distinguished collections in private hands.

Featuring 288 illustrations across 350 pages, the catalog includes works by major Mannerist masters including Giuseppe Arcimboldo, Albrecht Dürer, Parmigianino, Giorgio Ghisi, Léon Davent, Andrea Schiavone, Ugo da Carpi, Domenico Beccafumi, Hendrick Goltzius, Lucas Cranach, Hans Sebald Beham, and many others. Essays by leading international scholars examine Mannerist printmaking, collecting practices, artistic innovation, and the continuing influence of Mannerism on later generations of artists.

The publication also includes an exclusive interview with Georg Baselitz, offering rare insight into the motivations behind his lifelong fascination with Mannerist prints and the development of his extraordinary collection. By placing a renowned private collection in dialogue with a major museum collection, the exhibition presents a fresh perspective on Mannerism and demonstrates the enduring relevance of sixteenth-century printmaking for contemporary artistic practice.
