Through more than 100 artworks from the Prado’s collection and international loans, the exhibition and catalog shift the focus from the front-facing image to the physical object, uncovering traces of time, inscriptions, stamps, labels, repairs, and structural changes. These hidden surfaces reveal forgotten stories and provoke fresh reflection on the artwork’s life beyond its image.

The catalog brings together essays by acclaimed thinkers and scholars, including Ramón Andrés, Ana González Mozo, Antonio Muñoz Molina, Victor I. Stoichita, and curator and artist Miguel Ángel Blanco.
