A new survey of 20th-century Latin American art, based on iconic works from the MALBA (Museo de Arte Latinoamericano
de Buenos Aires) collection. The exhibition brings together 230 pieces by over 200 artists and highlights the artistic and cultural richness of the modern period in Latin America, one of the best represented in the Malba Collection.
On display there are the works by such major Latin American artists as Xul Solar, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Emilio Pettoruti, Rafael Barradas, Pedro Figari, Joaquín Torres-García, Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Wifredo Lam, María Martins, Antonio Berni, Fernando Botero, Hélio Oiticica, Lygia Clark, Lidy Prati, Jesús Rafael Soto, Lucio Fontana, Jorge de la Vega and Alicia Penalba, among others.
A 488-page publication that presents an overview of the collection’s new display while also bringing together, for the first time, a selection of bibliographical data compiled as part of the Collection Research Project—launched and directed in 2015 by Agustín Pérez Rubio (the museum’s artistic director from 2014 to 2018). Until now, this material had only been available on the museum’s website.
As part of this project, more than 70 international researchers and specialists contributed texts on individual works. Their contributions have expanded the understanding of the Malba Collection and made this comprehensive archive accessible to the wider public.
