This richly illustrated catalog represents the first-ever official publication dedicated to the historic Picture Gallery of the Doge’s Palace in Venice, presenting its permanent collection of paintings that once adorned the grand halls of the Serenissima’s political heart. Spanning works from the 14th to the 18th century, the volume showcases masterpieces by Titian, Tintoretto, Quentin Metsys, Vittore Carpaccio, Giovanni Bellini, Artemisia Gentileschi, and many others who shaped the artistic identity of Venice.

Through detailed scholarly essays and newly commissioned photography, the editors Daniele D’Anza and Elena Marchetti trace the evolution and significance of this collection in both the artistic and political life of the city. The catalog not only documents the surviving works still preserved in situ, but also revives the memory of those long dispersed, offering a comprehensive guide to one of Venice’s most important historic picture galleries.
