it is the first-ever solo exhibition of the celebrated 19th and early 20th-century Danish artist Vilhelm Hammershøi in Switzerland, bringing together 16 works from private collections dating between 1883 and 1914, some of which have rarely been exhibited before. His remarkably modernist sensibility continues to capture the imaginations of contemporary audiences around the globe, with major international retrospectives and exhibitions on view over the last twenty years from London to Tokyo.

Silence” offers an in-depth understanding of Hammershøi’s highly individual artistic language, encapsulated in eighteen works from private collections and some rarely exhibited before.

With illuminating essays by Felix Krämer, the exhibition’s curator and a leading expert on Hammershøi, and Florian Illies, an art historian, ‘Silence’ is an essential resource on the celebrated painter.
