This catalog accompanies the exhibition Il Rinascimento di Boccaccio Boccaccino, held at the Museo Diocesano in Cremona on the 500th anniversary of the artist’s death. Boccaccio Boccaccino (ca. 1462–1525) was one of the key interpreters of Renaissance painting in northern Italy, bridging the worlds of Ferrara, Venice, and Cremona.

The exhibition traces his artistic journey, from his formative years under the influence of Leonardo and the Venetian school to his role as a teacher and a central figure in the Cremonese Renaissance. It brings together an exceptional selection of masterpieces by Boccaccino and his contemporaries, including Gianfrancesco Bembo, Altobello Melone, and Giulio Campi, highlighting the refined language and modern sensibility of Cremona’s art in the early sixteenth century.

The catalog, edited by Francesco Ceretti and Filippo Piazza, serves as both a scholarly resource and a visual celebration of Boccaccino’s legacy. Essays explore the artist’s stylistic evolution, his connections to Mantegna and Ghirlandaio, and his influence on later painters. Richly illustrated with sixty color and black-and-white images, the volume also documents the recent rediscovery of a significant Boccaccino panel acquired by the Museo Diocesano di Cremona.
