Step into the cosmopolitan world of Carlo Bossoli (1815 – 1884), the globetrotting painter whose vivid imagery captured the spirit of an era shaped by travel, empire, and romantic imagination.

Known for his sweeping cityscapes, military scenes, and exotic Orientalist visions, Bossoli chronicled the cultural and political landscapes of his time with remarkable sensitivity and elegance.

The exhibition presents over 100 works – many shown to the public for the first time – sourced from Italian and Swiss institutions and distinguished private collections. Through these pieces, the catalog explores Bossoli’s richly varied career, from his early patronage in Odessa to his celebrated historical views commissioned by the House of Savoy, and his romantic depictions of distant lands such as Morocco, Spain, and the Ottoman Empire.

The catalog also has a unique section dedicated to Bossoli’s nephew, Francesco Edoardo Bossoli, also a notable artist.

More than just a monograph, this catalog offers an immersive journey through the art and life of a mysterious and wide-traveled artist—an essential resource for lovers of 19th-century painting, travel art, and the aesthetics of the Romantic age.
