This richly illustrated volume explores the flowering of Sienese painting in the first half of the 14th century. It presents masterpieces by Duccio di Buoninsegna, Simone Martini, and Pietro and Ambrogio Lorenzetti—artists who developed a distinctly Sienese style marked by emotional nuance, narrative complexity, and exquisite decorative detail.

Through scholarly essays and over 200 full-color illustrations, the catalog offers new insights into the visual culture, civic pride, and religious devotion that shaped the golden age of Sienese painting. It also considers Siena’s artistic legacy within the wider context of European art history.
